Malo e lelei, My name is Kasi Valu, I hail from the villages of Lapaha, Ma’ufanga from the kingdom of Tonga located in the South Pacific. I’m an emerging Wikipedian editor, with two years of experience. My focus and interests are in platforming Pacific arts within Aotearoa, New Zealand and the wider Pacific. I’m curious about how we can utilise Wikipedia to preserve and activate our different incubators of knowledge.

Abstract & description[edit source]

Abstract[edit source]

A cutting edge showcase that weaves multiple disciplines within Pacific arts. As proud descendants of Te Moana Nui-A-Kiwa, a group of young artists from Aotearoa, New Zealand, illustrate the distinct voices of Tonga, Samoa, and Niue, through traditional and contemporary visuals, movement and song.

Description[edit source]

A group of young artists and emerging Wikipedia editors from Aotearoa share a contemporary take on their Pasifika cultural heritage and current arts practice. The aim is to create a joyful exchange with the audience and represent culture in an interesting and entertaining way. This will be executed through an engaging performance that encourages audience participation. Traditional cultural song and movement will be used as methods of engagement, to share, teach and leave the audience with a meaningful exchange. The objective is for people at Wikimania to be curious about the Pacific.
The primary language of our session will be in English. As our emerging performers have ancestral links to nations in the Pacific, Samoan, Tongan and Niuean will also be woven into the performance through heritage dance, song, visuals and contemporary movement.

Collaboration. This session will encourage and spark curiosity about the Pacific. The sharing of cultural knowledge, will allow for other indigenous and minority groups to find commonalities, explore opportunities of collaboration of how we can better support each other.
