Abstract & description[edit source]

Abstract[edit source]

In my home project, the first article was created on April 16, 2005. This year we celebrate its coming of age. My presentation is dedicated to our activities for 18 years.

Description[edit source]

Bashkir Wikipedia has more than 62 thousand articles or 26 million words. It is also the most visited and largest site with open content in the Bashkir language. Thanks to Wikipedia, the Bashkir language entered the NLB-200 international Computational linguistics project. Over the 18 years, more than 3,290 people have contributed to the development of the Bashkir Wikipedia. Currently, 100 volunteers edit every month. The most active volunteers are 40 people. These are teachers, journalists, writers, and other creative people. Many of them are on retired pensioners. They continue to be useful and active members of our society through taking part in Wikimedia projects. Bashkir Wikipedia activists have achieved success in spreading the knowledge of mankind in their native language. They contribute to the preservation and development of the Bashkir language in a modern digital format. 30 active volunteers have been awarded various state and public awards of the Republic of Bashkortostan.

Further details[edit source]

Qn. How does your session relate to the event themes: Diversity, Collaboration Future?

Bashkir Wikigrannies proved that any community and any person can engage in Wikimedia projects, without distinction on gender, age, race, ethnicity, religion and worldview. We are proud that this was stated in the final speech of the Executive Director of the Wikimedia Foundation Catherine Marr at the Wikimania 2019 conference.

In our community, three priority tasks have been identified to achieve the goal of creating a free encyclopedic source of knowledge. Knowing them and applying them at work will be useful to everyone.
