Abstract & description[edit source]

Abstract[edit source]

Capacity development for underrepresented communities is a project conducted in Macedonia for two types of underrepresented communities:

  1. speakers of endangered minority languages, and
  2. users of sign languages.

The project run in the period from 1 June 2022 to 31 January 2023.

Description[edit source]

Capacity development for underrepresented communities (CDUC) was a project aimed at reaching out to underrepresented communities in order to get them involved in the Wikimedia movement. The project covered the Aromanian-speaking and Romani-speaking communities in Macedonia; and, it engaged people with hearing loss in Macedonia who use the Macedonian Sign Language.

The project consisted of three phases:

  • Research
  • Evaluation
  • Implementation

During the lecture we will share our experience working with these underrepresented communities, and additionally we will share our 10 lessons learnt during conducting this project in our country.

We believe that the project can be replicate in other regions, so other communities who wants to work with underrepresented communities can have a good start hearing this lecture.
