Abstract & description[edit source]

Abstract[edit source]

Spend an hour in round table conversation to discuss core challenges facing Wikimedia communities, projects and affiliates. We will work together on tough topics related to communication, content, capacity and change. These themes were identified by the ESEAP community and are relevant across the movement. What can we learn from each other to solve shared problems?

Description[edit source]

This workshop aims to bring together Wikimedians from across communities, projects and regions to get to know each other and to spend dedicated time discussing challenges. The objective is to share strategies, resources and knowledge. The output will be a thematic analysis of the conversations.

Participants at the ESEAP Community Conference in Sydney in November 2022 discussed challenges they face when engaging in Wikimedia projects. They then shared lessons they had learned across their communities. This conversational session helped people get to know other Wikimedians and set up ongoing discussions. The notes from each table were collected and analysed by the facilitators, and will inform this version of the Community Conversation at Wikimania.

The stimulus questions for this facilitated workshop will be translated in advance. The session will focus on maximum in-person participation and the generation of ideas. Concerns and ideas from each table will be collated and fed back to the community. This will allow a wider conversation to continue beyond those in the room.
