Abstract & description[edit source]

Abstract[edit source]

This presentation showcases Wikimedia Chile's communication strategies during the contingency and promoting Wikimedia values. It includes successful examples, and best practices on how to develop and implement an effective communication plan that promotes the Wikimedia vision and goals.

Description[edit source]

From its mission to promote free knowledge and contribute to the dissemination of the Wikimedia philosophy in the country, Wikimedia Chile has implemented various communication strategies to attend the contingency and still promote the values of the movement in Chile.

This session will explore the process of creating a strategic communications plan for Wikimedia Chile, detailing the successful experiences that have marked the development of its communication strategy, which has included, among other things, establishing target audiences, creating narratives, content, and tone; choosing and promote certain dissemination channels over others, in addition to working to create alliances with other organizations that share the values of the movement.

Today, Wikimedia's communication strategy also considers advocacy work at a national and regional level, with the aim of becoming an influential voice in political discussion on issues of interest to the Wikimedia movement, such as access to knowledge, limits and scope of intellectual property and the defense of the public domain.

Furthermore, the presentation will provide examples of successful communication campaigns and initiatives undertaken by Wikimedia Chile, such as its social media campaigns promoting free access to knowledge, and its advocacy campaigns.

This talk will also provide a space to share ideas and good communication practices that can be replicated by other chapters interested in spreading the Wikimedia philosophy to new audiences within their territories.
