I am a librarian and a fellow of Wikipedians in African Libraries. As a free Knowledge enthusiast, I have been able to attain the post of a certified Organiser Content Campaign, Wikimedia Foundation Product Team, a Certified Trainer and Project Lead for the Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom program in Nigeria. I am also the Founder of the Wikimedia Fan Club at Kwara State University, Nigeria. I organised the first WikiGLAM Awareness for Librarians in Kwara, Nigeria, and WikiLovesLibrariesNigeria. This poster presentation will showcase the impact of the WikiGLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums) movement on libraries and librarianship in Nigeria. The presenter, a certified Wikipedian in African Libraries, will share a series of initiatives implemented from 2020 to the present that promotes the use of Wikimedia projects among Librarians to enhance access to cultural and educational resources in Nigeria. Overall, this poster presentation offers a valuable opportunity for attendees to learn about the potential of WikiGLAM to transform libraries and librarianship in Nigeria and explore the practicalities of implementing WikiGLAM initiatives in their own contexts.

This poster session aims to showcase the impact of the Open GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums) movement on Nigerian libraries and librarians, with a focus on the use of Wikimedia projects in empowering these institutions and professionals. Through this poster session, attendees will learn about the evolution of Open GLAM culture in Nigeria, the challenges faced by Nigerian libraries and librarians, and how Wikis can be used to overcome these challenges and build sustainable libraries.

The poster will present a visual journey of Open GLAM( WikiGLAM) culture in Nigeria, highlighting the series of initiatives carried out by the presenter and other advocates of Open GLAM in the country. These initiatives include capacity-building programs for librarians on the use and adoption of Wikipedia and its sister’s project.

Attendees will also learn about the practical benefits of using Wikimedia projects to empower libraries and librarians in Nigeria, including improved access to digital resources, enhanced information literacy skills, and collaboration between cultural institutions and Wikimedia communities. The poster will showcase case studies of successful projects that have demonstrated the potential of Wikis to transform Nigerian libraries and librarianship.
