Abstract & description[edit source]

Abstract[edit source]

The Wikipedia Library provides active Wikimedia contributors with free access to paywalled reliable sources. In this session we will show you how to access, use and expand the library, and invite discussion on content you would like to see added to it.

Description[edit source]

The Wikipedia Library (https://wikipedialibrary.wmflabs.org/) is a Wikimedia Foundation project through which active Wikimedia editors can gain access to reliable sources which would otherwise be paywalled. We have partnered with more than 75 organisations including many of the world’s leading publishers.

In this session we will show you how to access the library, demonstrate its features, and answer questions. We will also discuss the partnership process, inviting suggestions for new content to be added to the library. Staff from Wikimedia Deutschland will join us to share tips for affiliates on how to get involved with forming new partnerships on a local level.

Further details[edit source]

Qn. How does your session relate to the event themes: Diversity, Collaboration Future?

The Wikipedia Library helps editors who otherwise may not have access to local libraries or the financial means to subscribe to online databases. We want to ensure that as many of these under-resourced editors as possible are aware of the library and how to use it. We also want to use this session to improve collaborations with affiliates, by working with WMDE to share information about our working relationship and lessons learned with local partners.

Qn. What is the experience level needed for the audience for your session?
