I am 29 years old, and originally from the small village of Hakarp in southern Sweden. I have an MA in Comparative Literature from Södertörn University, with parts of my studies, as a European at heart, made in Göttingen, Augsburg and Brussels, where I also have worked. I work as a Project Manager for Wikimedia Sverige, leading and managing different projects. This includes work with the WikiGap campaign, with the Content Partnerships Hub and lobbying efforts in Sweden and internationally. Valérie Lafon, 52 years old and of French nationality. I have a diverse background of over 20 years within international organizations such as the European Commission, the IEA, and the OECD. I have held various positions ranging from research in higher education to communication. Currently, I hold the position of advisor to the Director of Communication at the OECD. I strongly believe that climate change needs a collective approach and that science should be available to all to tackle all these major global challenges.

I am leading FAO’s work with Wikipedia to share content as part of FAO’s Open Access policy.

Partnering with intergovernmental organizations (IGOs) has a huge potential. Through the Content Partnerships Hub a large number of partnerships with IGOs have been established and developed. The IGOs want to engage more with the Wikimedia movement, which creates many opportunities for local communities and organizations. The presentation will share what the opportunities are and how you can engage with the IGOs.

Intergovernmental organizations (IGOs) are international organizations that often are very large. They include UN agencies and organizations such as the EU. The Wikimedia movement has had a number of successful partnerships with IGOs over the years, but the work has most often been ad hoc and limited in scope. The partnerships have not created as many opportunities for underserved and underrepresented communities as would be ideal.
Partnering with intergovernmental organizations (IGOs) has a huge potential. The partnerships could provide large amounts of unique and valuable material from around the world, open up new networks, access to venues and conferences for local communities. They could also create new funding opportunities for local volunteers and Wikimedia organizations as many of them are interested in hiring Wikimedians in Residence.
The Content Partnerships Hub is an initiative to create a Thematic Hub, which is led by Wikimedia Sverige. Currently five different areas of work are forming the pillars of the Hub and partnerships with IGOs is one of them. Over the last years we have developed a large and valuable network within the IGO sector, including organizations such as UNESCO, WIPO, FAO, IEA, UNDP, EIB and more. In 2022–2023 we started formalizing these partnerships with the goal to lower the threshold for other Wikimedia affiliates to work and engage with the IGOs. One key area we are exploring is the potential for Wikimedian in Residence positions at the different IGOs and how to ensure that this is an opportunity that is open and possible for Wikimedians from around the world.
During the presentation we will outline the work done with IGOs, what is in the pipeline, what possibilities there are with Wikimedian in Residence positions and how you can get involved in the work in different ways.

Qn. How does your session relate to the event themes: Diversity, Collaboration Future?
The session focuses on the collaboration opportunities between Wikimedia affiliates and IGOs.
These collaborations can create opportunities for volunteers and affiliates from across the world and will therefore support diversity. Furthermore the content from the IGOs is diverse and covers all types of cultural expressions. We have also seen a strong interest from the IGOs to specifically engage in activities related to diversity, such as WikiGap.
These partnerships have the potential to grow in scale and importance in the future – if we work together, invest resources to get them started and think and plan strategically to capture the opportunities.
