Abstract
Sharing the experience of the "African Scientists" project, which consists of introducing young girls to research and information processing in order to produce content on Wikipedia, while at the same time arousing their interest in science.
Description
According to the Unesco Science Report, there are 2.4% of African scientists in the world, of which barely 30% are women. The observation is clear. There are not enough women researchers in Africa. To rebalance this situation, Unesco invites to encourage young girls to study mathematics and science. During the 2021 - 2022 school year, we have created a Wikipedia club in a school group for girls: the Groupe Scolaire Madeleine Danielou. Objectives: 1. to train a group of girls on the functioning of Wiki platforms (Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, WikiQuote, etc.) 2. to collect and organize documentation on at least 3 African scientists 3. to write and improve biographies of African scientists Write and improve biographies of at least 3 African scientists on Wikipedia. In doing so, the idea is to get the girls to know women who have made a career in science, to tell their stories and to use them as role models. At the end of the school year, the results are satisfying and provide important lessons to share.
