Wikipedia faces a number of challenges related to different dimensions of diversity. This applies to both the community and the content of the free encyclopaedia. For the past four years, the online workshop series "60 Minutes - Gender & Diversity in Wikipedia" has provided the German-speaking Wikipedia community with an opportunity to discuss these issues. It is an offer by Wikipedians for Wikipedians. Our goal is to learn from each other and to expand our knowledge about these topics. It also promotes networking between people interested in these topics.
Description
[edit | edit source]Page of 60 minutes: https://w.wiki/6eug The German title of the workshop series is "60 Minuten - Gender & Diversity in der Wikipedia". The series is organised by three Wikipedians: IvaBerlin, Mushushu and myself. For each workshop, a Wikipedian gives a keynote speech, followed by a discussion. The short name "60 minutes" refers to the intended maximum length of each workshop. In the lightning talk, I will present how the workshop series came about, how it works, and what topics we have covered so far. I will also discuss what works well and where our challenges lie. The aim of the talk is to introduce the format to the international community and to gather feedback on it.
- How does your session relate to the event theme, Collaboration of the Open?
The concept of openness is inconceivable without embracing aspects of diversity and inclusion in a broader perspective as open-mindedness. Open knowledge that is limited to the perspectives of privileged social groups is a barrier to progress. Ongoing reflection by the Wikipedia community on issues of diversity and inclusion is needed to promote openness. Our workshop series seeks to contribute to this.
- What is the experience level needed for the audience for your session?
Everyone can participate in this session
