“WikiPola” literally WikiPattern (see category page: w.wiki/8SBN), an attempt to record traditional motifs of various cultures in Indonesia in a form of derivable vector files. There are currently 148 public domain files of various motifs across Indonesia that had been uploaded into Wikimedia Commons. These files, apart from being incorporated into extensive WMID communities’ publication, are also helping to illustrate individual Wikipedia page or Wiktionary entry about those pattern. This is a way of a graphic desigers can help with the sum of human knowledge.

Description

Brief introduction of my personal projects WikiPola "WikiPattern", an aim to document Indonesian diverse traditional pattern. The SVG files are uploaded via Wikimedia Commons and its lingual information of each pattern being recorder through Wiktionary (or Wikipedia).

How does your session relate to the event theme, Collaboration of the Open?

Wikimedia projects often highlight certain type of knowledge, particularly text and photography. I want to see more contribution from different backgrounds and I think it is great to inspire more graphic designers about a way to contribute to Wikimedia projects.

What is the experience level needed for the audience for your session?
