Description

[edit | edit source]

Explaining the world through images has a long tradition. Even today, it is hard to imagine life without images—instructions, comics, advertisements, emoticons, visual information. Despite the widespread use of this type of communication, we still struggle to convey and explain key phenomena and the relationships between them. Today, images are as much a source of information as they are of misinformation. Therefore, the ability to create and effectively convey knowledge through this medium is of great importance. However, it is not enough to possess the knowledge of a scientist and the talent of a graphic designer. Interpretation, sensitivity, and imagination are crucial. Hence, creating effective images, infographics, and diagrams requires skills that are usually found not in a single individual, but in a team. Thus, scientific, environmental, and social educators face a significant challenge today: to collectively reflect and work on creating effective visual information that meets the demands of the times and the scale of needs. In this context, technical and scientific realities pose particular challenges.
