Session title: My cycling and Wikipedia journey (from images on Commons to riding bicycle to Katowice)

Session type: Lecture
Track: Wild Ideas
Language: en

I want to share my volunteer experience using my hobby (cycling) into Wikimedia projects, as taking images, researching places, visiting remote locations, which resulted into creation of the Veloexpeditions (=velo means bicycle) in Macedonia.

Description

[edit | edit source]

I would like to present that even our hobbies can turned into valuable opportunities for Wikipedia/Wikimedia, and thus although that day we are spending our free time doing something else, we can still contribute to our Wikimedia projects.

Promoting outdoor activities as essential to our projects, my research skills, and what that brings to Macedonian Wikipedia.

How does your session relate to the event theme, Collaboration of the Open?

Apart from adding images on Commons, creating items on Wikidata, writing articles on Wikipedia, I use .gpx files from my bicycle rides to create new roads/paths on OpenStreetMaps.

What is the experience level needed for the audience for your session?

Everyone can participate in this session
