Session title: The never ending World War: Fake and Hate in Articles Concerning Poland
- Session type: Lightning talk
- Track: Legal & Advocacy
- Language: en
The dewiki community is having difficulty maintaining its articles in the "Poland" category tree. Very active users are pushing disinformation and misinformation in our articles. German fake names for places had been discovered by a Polish user.
Description
[edit | edit source]A large proportion of the articles are written by children and grandchildren of displaced persons or refugees. Some are to be very one-sided, beginning with the partitions of Poland and ending 1947. The Geographical Dictionary of the Kingdom of Poland (Słownik geograficzny Królestwa Polskiego) ist never used. The Germanization of place names during the occupation is pressed on maps inside and outside our project. German place names for eastern Poland had been created by source fiction. The fact was discovered by a Polish user who checked the rare book. There are even "lovers" who invent German geographical names to make as many articles as possible pleasant for readers.
New guidelines have to be created. We are in contact with "Deutsches Polen-Institut / Niemiecki Instytut Spraw Polskich". Our wish is to develop a system of mutual consultation across borders.
