Description

One of the key building blocks of Wikimedia’s collective dream is capacity-building. By building capacity, we build the infrastructure for the free knowledge ecosystem and the foundation for the Movement’s future. Capacity-building is one of the central elements of Movement Strategy 2030 and the Capacity Exchange (CapX) is a platform, designed by and for the Wikimedia Movement, for finding and connecting with peers to exchange knowledge and skills on a global level.

In this session, we aim to present the project and the Capacity Exchange tool for the participants, showing how it can help to strengthen skills-sharing and collaboration within the Wikimedia Movement. In our demonstration, we will walk the participants through the values and motivations behind this powerful tool, and we will do a step by step presentation of CapX features. Participants will get to know how to create Capacity Exchange’s user and organizations profiles, and how to navigate the tool and the documentation about it.

How does your session relate to the event theme, Wikimania@20 – Inclusivity. Impact. Sustainability?

By building capacity, we build the infrastructure for the free knowledge ecosystem and the foundation for the Movement’s sustainability. The Capacity Exchange (CapX) is a platform designed to facilitate the capacity-building on a global level by helping wikimedians to find and connect with peers. It tries to include everyone by being accessible, multilanguage (by being integrated to TranslateWiki), and designed as mobile first. With this tool, we can impact the Wikimedia Movement by mapping and connecting people from different regions to act on behalf of its goals.
