This session will equip Wikimedia affiliates with the tools and insights needed to effectively demonstrate their impact and tell compelling stories about their work. We will explore how affiliates can craft narratives that resonate with current and potential external partners, including donors, organizations, and community members, to promote long-term sustainability. The session will feature case studies, best practices, and practical tips on using data to showcase impact.

Description

The Wikimedia movement thrives on the passion and commitment of affiliates worldwide, yet some struggle to articulate their impact in a way that attracts support from external partners, including funding. This session will provide guidance on demonstrating impact through data-driven storytelling, helping affiliates strengthen their external engagement, fundraising efforts and community relations.

How does your session relate to the event theme, Wikimania@20 – Inclusivity. Impact. Sustainability?

Inclusivity: This session emphasizes the importance of telling stories from diverse voices across the Wikimedia movement. By equipping affiliates with tools to highlight their unique experiences and achievements, we encourage greater participation from underrepresented communities and ensure that all contributors have a platform to showcase their work. Impact: Demonstrating impact is crucial for securing funding, engaging supporters, and sustaining Wikimedia initiatives. This session will provide practical guidance on using metrics and storytelling techniques to showcase achievements, helping affiliates strengthen their credibility and attract external partners. Sustainability: Strong storytelling and data-driven impact reports are key to long-term sustainability. By guiding affiliates on how to craft compelling narratives and leverage data effectively, we support their ability to secure funding, build lasting partnerships, and continue their work for years to come.
