Do you use Wikimedia tools to organize events in the movement? If so, join our session to engage in discussions on learning and adopting tools while exploring ways to support their effective use. You will have the opportunity to collaborate on insights for receiving dedicated event support, actively participate in tool testing, provide valuable feedback, and help shape essential features. Through the lens of a tools task force, you will discover opportunities to enhance the tool experience and drive innovation within the movement.

Description

Tools play a crucial role in our Wikimedia experience. We rely on them for learning, organizing events, and engaging with our community. As we continuously adapt to both new and existing tools, we face the ongoing task of overcoming hurdles and maximizing their potential.

Now, imagine having access to a central hub that provides quick technical solutions—or using your expertise to shape tools that drive the movement forward.

This session offers a unique opportunity for the Campaigns Programs team at the Wikimedia Foundation, Wikimedia Technical Community, and the broader movement to explore the concept of a tools task force. Together, we will envision how such a team can champion solutions that empower movement organizers to lead in learning, adopting, and refining organizer tools. Whether you are a technical enthusiast, an organizer, a community member, or an event participant, this session promises to be an empowering and insightful experience.

How does your session relate to the event theme, Wikimania@20 – Inclusivity. Impact. Sustainability?

This session aligns with the theme by highlighting the vital role of tools in creating a more inclusive, impactful, and sustainable Wikimedia movement. It fosters a collaborative space where movement organizers, technical enthusiasts, and community members can contribute their diverse perspectives to shape Wikimedia tools. By exploring ways to optimize these tools, the session empowers organizers to more effectively host events, manage campaigns, and engage with their communities. Additionally, by addressing technical challenges and proposing a dedicated task force, it advocates for long-term solutions that enhance the usability and accessibility of Wikimedia’s tools. Sustainable technical support is key to ensuring that both new and experienced contributors can actively participate in the movement, reinforcing its growth and longevity.
