This session will examine how the Wikimedia Global Resource Distribution Committee (GRDC) and Regional Fund Committees (RFCs) contribute to advancing inclusivity, impact, and sustainability in the Wikimedia Movement. The presentation will introduce the role of the GRDCs on resource distribution, based on its proposal, and discuss the critical role of RFCs in empowering volunteers through capacity building and regional community development. A dynamic open forum will follow, inviting attendees to share experiences, raise questions, and discuss innovative approaches to resource distribution and volunteer engagement.
Description
This session examines the impact of the Wikimedia Global Resource Distribution Committee (GRDC) and Regional Fund Committees (RFCs) on advancing the Wikimedia Movement's core goals of inclusivity, impact, and sustainability. Through a presentation and open forum, attendees will explore how equitable resource distribution empowers underrepresented communities and fosters regional capacity building. Participants will engage in an interactive discussion, sharing experiences and ideas to collaboratively shape future strategies for inclusivity and global equity within the Wikimedia movement.
Learning Outcomes: Participants will: 1. Grasp the importance of equitable resource distribution in achieving movement-wide goals. 2. Gain clarity on the Global Resource Distribution Committee (GRDC)âs purpose and mandate. 3. Understand the impact of RFCs in fostering regional volunteer development and capacity building. 4. Contribute their perspectives during the forum to collaboratively shape future strategies for inclusivity.
Session Flow: Introduction: Overview of the Wikimedia's aim for inclusivity, impact, and sustainability through grants and other means of assistance. Global Resource Distribution Committee: Build a shared understanding of the GRDCâs mandate, objectives, and roles and responsibilities. Regional Fund Committees: Process of RFC in analyzing funding proposals with insights into their community impact. Presentation Wrap-Up: Summarizing key points and transitioning to the open forum. Open Forum : Moderated discussion where attendees can:
- Share personal experiences or challenges in accessing resources. - Propose ideas for improving equity and support within their regions - Propose ideas that help inform the GRDC future's work. - Ask questions and engage with the presenter and other participants.
Target Audience: Wikimedia volunteers, regional coordinators, grant applicants, and movement leaders interested in resource distribution, capacity building, and community development.

- Butch Bustria
- Butch Bustria is an Overseas Filipino Worker / Wikimedian (OFW) based in Singapore, He use his spare time in doing Wikimedia projects. His first edit was in December 2005 with a series of edits about the Philippinesâ hosting of the Southeast Asian Games. In 2010, he along with 4 others co-founded Wikimedia Philippines, the second Wikimedia chapter in Southeast Asia. Since 2017, Butch had been involved in organizing the ESEAP conferences and summits in Bali, Indonesia, in Bangkok, Thailand, in Sydney, Australia, in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia and in Manila, Philippines. He is part of the Regional Funds Committee for ESEAP since 2021. He is remembered as well as the Event lead for Wikimania 2023 in Singapore. Since 2020, he is part of the Wikimania Steering Committee and as of this writing, its vice chairperson.

- My name is Anna Torres Adell and i was born and raised in Europe but I have been living in LATAM for more than 20 years. I have been involved in the Wikimedia Movement for 12 years. For +10 years I was the ED of Wikimedia Argentina where I worked to promote the development of the organization as well as to accompany the growth of the Latin American community. Currently I work for the WMF.
