Each community is asked to govern the content and behaviour on that project in accordance with movement principles. Though how does this work actually? In a panel format, we will showcase how projects and groups of varying sizes overcome common challenges in peer-dependent moderation. Universal Code of Conduct adherence, methods of dispute resolution and how contributors work together to develop and enforce policies, guidelines, and norms to ensure the integrity of project content. Panelists may also reflect on how movement organizing efforts strengthen local communities by growing and engaging with our communities.

Description

This session will be organized by the Committee Support Team and will involve a combination of panelists drawn from staff and volunteers from organizations and groups in the Wikimedia movement that support movement governance.

Topics for the panel will include:

• how committees work to advance shared goals by providing crucial governance functions,
• how communities develop content policies and procedures that align with movement principles,
• how to spread knowledge about the Universal Code of Conduct and foster adherence,
• how movement organizers can structure their work for sustainability and impact,
• how individuals and communities can participate in ensuring free knowledge can thrive.

Participants will come away with a strong understanding of the people and groups that can provide necessary support for creating an inclusive sustainable ecosystem that provides meaningful impact in advancing our movement.
