Campaign is an integral part of advocacy and interesting strategy to make a social change, recruit new volunteers and closing content gap in the Wikimedia movement

Organizing a multilingual campaign especially a campaign that involves direct editing of live articles could be very tricky but good implementation strategy could be helpful in making it a success. The aim of this session is to help participants understand how to successfully organize and implement a multilingual campaign.

Duration: 30 minutes Target Audience:

Wikimedia organizers, community leaders, campaign coordinators, advocacy groups, and individuals interested in leveraging campaigns for content creation, volunteer engagement, and social impact.

Lecture Overview:

Campaigns are a powerful advocacy tool that can drive social change, recruit new volunteers, and bridge content gaps within the Wikimedia movement. They serve as a strategic mechanism for mobilizing contributors, increasing awareness, and fostering inclusivity across different language communities. However, organizing a multilingual campaign, especially one that involves direct editing of live Wikipedia articles can be complex and requires careful planning. Challenges such as content coordination, linguistic diversity, volunteer engagement, and quality control require a well-thought-out implementation strategy to ensure success. This session will provide participants with practical insights and strategies to successfully plan, execute, and manage a multilingual Wikimedia campaign while ensuring sustainability and long-term impact.

Key Learning Objectives:

By the end of the lecture, participants will be able to: 1. Understand the role of campaigns in advocacy and community engagement within the Wikimedia movement. 2. Identify key considerations for designing and implementing a multilingual campaign, including language barriers, community collaboration, and content verification. 3. Recognize the challenges of organizing campaigns that involve direct content contributions and explore solutions to mitigate risks. 4. Develop a strategic approach to campaign execution, from goal setting and outreach to monitoring progress and measuring impact. 5. Learn best practices for sustaining campaign impact beyond the campaign period, including community follow-ups, partnerships, and contributor retention. Lecture Structure:

Introduction (5 minutes)

Challenges of Multilingual Campaigns (5 minutes)
