In this session, we'll explore language tools that support Wikimedia sites on web and mobile platforms, such as Content/Section Translation and Translatewiki. We'll share the latest updates related to recent initiatives and then engage in a collaborative brainstorming session to generate recommendations for enhancing the language onboarding and development experiences. Led by WMF staff involved in the Language and Product Localisation team’s work and volunteers, join us as we delve into the world of language tools and discuss ways to enhance language onboarding. In this workshop, we will focus on two aspects of language at Wikimedia: language tools and language onboarding . We will begin with an overview of language tools across Wikimedia projects. These tools, such as Content/Section Translation, Translatewiki play a crucial role in helping editors work more efficiently by facilitating translation, internationalization and localization efforts. Furthermore, we'll provide insights into how various language editions are utilizing these tools to enhance their content growth within their respective communities. Participants will be expected to learn by doing and practically get to use these tools themselves. Following this, we'll delve into the current status and the future direction of languages onboarding and development at Wikimedia . We'll share the latest updates related to recent initiatives and then engage in a collaborative brainstorming session to generate recommendations for enhancing the language onboarding and development experiences. Whether you're a seasoned editor or new to Wikimedia, come join us as we explore language tools and discuss ways to make language onboarding even better!
Attendees will have an opportunity to learn about the language tools and how these tools can facilitate translation, internationalization and localization efforts. Additionally, attendees will learn about the current state of language onboarding and incubation, have an opportunity to ask questions and collectively brainstorm and give suggestions on Language onboarding and Development

Our session focuses on learning by doing using language tools and collectively brainstorming on ways to improve language onboarding. By demonstrating how language tools can support the inclusivity of diverse communities on Wikimedia sites, communities will learn by doing how they can utilise these tools to grow content and be sustainable in the longer term on our platform. Additionally, by brainstorming ways to improve language onboarding experiences, we strive to gather perspectives on how we can facilitate language onboarding and development, ultimately contributing to a more inclusive and accessible platform for knowledge contribution and consumption.

- Mary Munyoki is a Manager in the Language and Product Localisation team, I manage the Language onboarding and Development initiative. https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Language_Onboarding_and_Development .This initiative entails managing interventions and engagements needed to support multilingual tools and workflows to help Language communities primarily new ones and those with a smaller presence on our platform ones to keep them moving towards their goals.
