User:Eugene Ormandy introduces the Wikimedia movement in Japan.

Description

In Japan, Wikimedia movement have long and rich history. There are a lot of Wikimedia related activities, such as editathons in GLAM, Wikipedia editing in university classrooms, linking national authority data to Wikidata, and some Japanese books about Wikimedia. However, such movement are not well known among Wikimedians in other regions because of language barriers. In the session, User:Eugene Ormandy, a Japanese Wikimedian and one of the Wikimedian of the Year winners, introduce the Japanese Wikimedia world in English.

How does your session relate to the event theme, Wikimania@20 – Inclusivity. Impact. Sustainability?

Mainly because of the language barriers, Wikimedia movement in Japan (and in Japanese language) have not been much focused among the global communities. This presentation will help Wikimedians understand Japanese situation and encourage them learn more about movements in various regions.
