This paper presents a political reflection on the documentation and recording of information about human rights activism in Mexico, particularly the struggle for territory, the environment, civil rights, LGBTTIQ+ community, disappeared persons, etc. The List of Spanish Wikipedia entitled 'Anexo:Activistas asesinados en México (Activists murdered in Mexico)' is the central space of the analysis, and from this we will show the importance of the documentation of journalistic and academic research that become central sources that nourish a recent tragic memory.

Description
This paper aims to reflect on the political scope of Wikipedia as a space for documentation, registration and memory in countries like Mexico that have a generalized context of violence.
The space will be divided into three moments. In the first we will share the context of why the List Activists murdered activists in Mexico (Anexo:Activistas asesinados en México) arose, the political and social context that frames it as the disappearance of people, violence against journalists and defenders of the territory. We will also make a cross between human rights, memory and registration.
In a second moment, we will do a practical exercise in which the participants of the conversation will access the visualizations of the List and will be able to see in a visual way the Mexican statistics compared with another country of the region. At the same time, we will share the local experience editing the mentioned List, through qualitative interviews with the active editors of the List. Likewise, this space will be analyzed, not only as an annex to Spanish Wikipedia, but as an open database, using Wikidata, OpenRefine and Quickstatements.
Finally, we will address the methodological challenges, limitations and psychosocial effects that editing topics on violence imply. We will also open the space to questions with the attending community
- How does your session relate to the event theme, Wikimania@20 – Inclusivity. Impact. Sustainability?
The topic of this presentation relates to collective struggles for territory and social activism for human rights; these simultaneously resonate with the activism carried out in Wikimedia projects for open knowledge. On the one hand, communities and activists fight for their common goods and their knowledge; while on Wikipedia, this struggle is carried out online through epistemological principles of inclusion and participation.
- What is the experience level needed for the audience for your session?
