The Wikimedia Community User Group Kenya is a collective of volunteers committed to promoting free knowledge, digital literacy, inclusivity, and gender equality within the Wikimedia movement. The work focuses on content creation, community outreach, capacity building, and strategic partnerships to expand Wikimedia’s impact across Kenya.
As a user group, we have organized edit-a-thons, workshops, and training sessions to engage students, educators, researchers, and underrepresented communities, including women and marginalized groups. We actively collaborate with educational institutions, GLAM organizations, NGOs, and government bodies to integrate Wikimedia into learning environments and increase knowledge accessibility.
The initiatives prioritize gender equality by bridging the gender gap in Wikimedia contributions, supporting women-led projects, and fostering safe, inclusive spaces for participation. Through strategic partnerships, mentorship, and skill development, we strive to ensure sustainable growth, diverse representation, and equitable knowledge sharing within the Wikimedia movement in Kenya.
