This session will present the Movement Ecosystem paper, one of the pilot projects initiated by the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees following the Movement Charter resolution. We will provide an overview of the Movement Ecosystem paper its development process and key conclusions.

Description

The Movement Ecosystem is one of the pilots promoted by the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees following the Movement Charter resolution. It aims to clarify the roles and responsibilities of the various entities — including affiliates, hubs, movement partners, and the Foundation — within the Wikimedia Movement. During this session, we will present the status of this pilot, including the final version of the Movement Ecosystem paper and its main conclusions.

Our goal is to provide a clear overview of the Movement Ecosystem paper’s development and to share its main conclusions with the broader Wikimedia movement.

We will structure the session as follows: - Presentation of the Movement Ecosystem paper’s purpose and overview of the process. - Presentation of the paper’s main conclusions regarding the roles and responsibilities of Movement entities - main changes and updates. - Open discussion. - Next steps

Expected outcome: By the end of the session the broader community will understand the Movement Ecosystem paper and its key conclusions regarding the roles and responsibilities of Wikimedia movement entities, and how this will inform the work of other decision-making bodies such as the Global Resource Distribution Committee and the Affiliations Committee.

Providing greater clarity and definition of the Wikimedia Movement organizations ecosystem- affiliates, hubs, movement partners, and the Wikimedia Foundation - including their roles, responsibilities and core functions within the movement, is key to fostering sustainable growth and inclusivity within the Wikimedia Movement.
