This initiative is a transformative project aimed at fostering a culture of knowledge sharing, digital literacy, and open collaboration among students and youths across Rwanda. At its core, the initiative seeks to establish vibrant, student-led WikiClubs in schools and communities to empower young people to contribute to free and accessible knowledge on platforms like Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, and other Wikimedia projects.
These clubs serve as hubs where members learn vital skills such as research, writing, critical thinking, and digital content creation. Through hands-on activities, participants document and share local knowledge, heritage, and culture in underrepresented languages, including Kinyarwanda. This work ensures that Rwanda’s stories and perspectives are available to a global audience.

- How does your session relate to the event theme, Wikimania@20 – Inclusivity. Impact. Sustainability?
The session connects directly to the Wikimania@20 theme in several key ways:
- Inclusivity: The initiative emphasizes open and accessible knowledge for all Rwandans, regardless of background, ensuring that both urban and rural communities, students, and professionals have a voice. By establishing Wiki Clubs in universities, secondary schools, and community hubs, it creates diverse spaces where everyone can participate.
- Impact: Through localized content creation and targeted training programs, the initiative drives tangible outcomes—improving digital literacy, enriching cultural documentation, and fostering a robust community of Wikipedia contributors. These efforts have not only enhanced the repository of Rwandan knowledge but also built a foundation for future content and collaboration.
- Sustainability: By embedding the Wiki Clubs within educational institutions and community centers, the initiative establishes a lasting framework that encourages continuous knowledge sharing and skill development. The focus on capacity building, partnerships, and the integration of emerging technologies ensures that the project can evolve and thrive over the long term.
