An overview of several activities made throughout the years in my public library with children and teenagers to make them contribute to various Wikimedia projects.
Description
I am the head librarian in a small public library in southern France, near the Spanish border. Also a long-time editor on various Wikimedia projects, I have been contributing for 15 years now, and I am one of the administrators on the French Wikipedia. Work in my public library implies receiving children and teenagers in various contexts and I decided at some point that it would be interesting to try to find ways to make them contribute on the Wikimedia projects. Furthermore, some of these groups are children and teenagers with specific problems, and I wanted to find a way to show that whatever your handicap or problem, there may be a solution to contribute to the world knowledge through the Wikimedia projects. The projects shown imply Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, Wiktionary, Lingua Libre and OpenStreetMap. The results, sometime very simple and other times more impressive, all have in common to have given these children and teenagers the pride of having produced something that will stay on-line and helpful for others. I have presented these projects in the past years in several French WikiConventions, and chose for my first Wikimania to do this presentation in English to have a wider audience and also receive comments or advice for future projects.
