Currency
המטבע הרשמי של קניה הוא שילינג קנייתי (KES).
M-Pesa, פלטפורמת העברת כספים ניידת, היא המלכה בניירובי לכל תשלום קטן או גדול. כדי להשתמש ב-M-Pesa אתם זקוקים לכרטיס SIM מקומי. הגעה לניירובי
- בטיסה: נמל התעופה הבין-לאומי ג'ומו קניאטה (NBO) הוא נמל התעופה הראשי של ניירובי, עם קשרים לערים גדולות ברחבי העולם. חברת התעופה הלאומית היא קניה איירווייז (KQ), שהיא חלק מברית Sky team וטסה ליעדים מרכזיים בתוך ומחוץ לאפריקה.
- בכביש: אם נוסעים ממדינות שכנות באזור מזרח אפריקה, אוטובוסים כמו Easy Coach ו-Tahmeed מקשרים את ניירובי לערים כמו קמפלה, דאר א-סלאם וקיגאלי.
תחבורה בניירובי
- Arriving from the airport for scholars and attendees: Airport shuttle buses will be provided for scholars and any other attendees who would like to make use of our airport shuttles. Info will come via email to registered in-person attendees in July for them to sign up to the airport shuttles. The shuttle buses will pick up and drop off at all the terminals at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
- Shuttle buses provided to official events: There will also be shuttle buses taking people on the tours listed and to/from the closing event.

- Any attendees feeling uneasy can switch to attending virtually at any point – please prioritise your wellbeing over attendance.
- In an increasingly volatile world we are taking steps to
- Monitor – we will be monitoring air space closures in the middle east and events on the ground in Nairobi closely.
- Mitigate – we have already taken steps to mitigate impact e.g. locating Wikimania outside of CBD, conference buses, working closely with the LGBTQI+ user group.
- Planning – we will have plans in place for different disruptions.
- Nairobi is host to several international conferences including Open Street Map's State of the Map, CGIAR Science week, and the Ted Talks Countdown Summit.
Locals Dos and Don'ts
- No vaping or smoking indoors – use designated outdoor areas. – Smoking outside of designated areas can come at a 50,000 Kenyan shilling fine
- Any public displays of affection are very much frowned upon
- Bag & Tag Policy: All bags will be searched on arrival to the Hotel / Mall.
- Large bags and travel bags will be stored in the luggage and lost property room on the 1st floor of the Trademark Hotel.
- Wear your accreditation at all times at the venue,
- Conference Etiquette, please respect room capacities to ensure a safe and enjoyable event for all our members.

The gathering will happen at multiple venues throughout Gigiri, a small and easily navigable neighborhood, to allow participants an opportunity to experience diverse offerings and the warmth of Kenyan hospitality. Wikimania will be hybrid, offering both in-person and virtual participation.
Each of the different in-person venues have their own individual capacities. Overall, in person this Wikimania will be similar in size to Wikimania Singapore because of venue restrictions. For the event we have had a total of 725 places to fill including scholars and other attendees. The final number of attendees may vary slightly depending on cancellations and last minute additions. Physical Security
- The venue hotels will be conducting bag checks on the way in for all attendees – these will go through the hotel scanners.
- We will also have security staff throughout the venue.
- If the alarm goes off please follow the instructions of venue and security staff.
- Expect security check points coming out of the airport for hand luggage and going into the airport for all luggage.
- You will also need to go through a security scanner on the way into the airport and this involves coming off the bus and then back on again, before the main airport drop off area.
- Take care in the town – make sure you use Ubers and travel in groups to suggested restaurants in either Gigiri or Westlands areas. There are many options also in the Village market Mall next to the Trademark.
- Don’t walk alone at night. Use hotel or conference-arranged transportation.
- Carry ID while in Kenya such as driving license, avoid carrying passport, always have a copy of your identification in digital format as well.
- Keep your phone and valuables out of sight in public areas.
- Be wary of pickpockets in busy areas like downtown, markets, and matatus (minibuses).
- Only use licensed taxis or trusted ride-hailing apps like Uber comfort.
- Avoid ATMs on the street. Use machines in banks or malls.
- Do not accept gifts, food or drink from strangers
