translate tag in button
Hi there, would it be possible to add translate tags to the "Propose a session now Until March 31st" button? The page is protected, so I cannot add it myself, and it would be nice to be able to translate it. Thanks so much! SophieWMCA (talk) 16:58, 5 March 2025 (UTC)
- @SophieWMCA, Thank you very much. I will check it out and add it. Joris Darlington Quarshie (talk) 14:42, 6 March 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for adding it! Just translated it to French. Oddly the st of the English stays after date, but at least we can translate the rest, so that's great. SophieWMCA (talk) 16:31, 6 March 2025 (UTC)
- I can add the st to it. Let me add it to it. Joris Darlington Quarshie (talk) 17:10, 6 March 2025 (UTC)

No captions to the how-to video, why?
As far as we are leading presenters-to-be to watch the video, and the video is there to be useful, why is there no caption text set provided in at least English? Are we really inclusive in that matter? “Good luck” is for a blessed those who comprehend what is presented vocally, and others might lack good guide to apply… /:Six-minute audio takes time to translate, so kindly hurry please (y)- - Omotecho (talk) 02:18, 24 March 2025 (UTC)
- @Omotecho I have done a quick one with YouTube's help and edited most if not all of the mistakes generated. Robertsky (talk) 07:38, 24 March 2025 (UTC)
- @리듬, you may be interested in translating this as well for Korean. :) Robertsky (talk) 07:47, 24 March 2025 (UTC)
- @Robertsky, hello,
- wow you are generous! Thank you so much, I will start when back home. Yes, end of March is around the corner, kindly, --Omotecho (talk) 08:39, 24 March 2025 (UTC)
- @Robertsky, finished translation: one thought is that I wish to help our busy readers scan read subtitles, and I guess it is possible by offering bigger chanks of subtitles. Since I am not quite familiar how the Timed Text formats, or if any language can apply different segmentation (hh:mm:ss:digits) to the same source audio.
- If I may suggest a small reform, is it wise to bind a few segments together in ja translation? The readability is not very smooth, due to grammatical composition of ja language.
- To be exact, for ja language, its grammer does not go Subject - Verb - Object - modifiers:
- ja grammer goes: Subject -> (modifiers + object) -> Verb / adverb / adjective
- As you see, you can't guess/get hunch if it is OK or not, till you reach the end of each sentence.
- Anyhow, I will try make a mock up using the en-ja translation if it will be feasible/ not bothering tech minded ones to go too big an extra mile. (; Omotecho (talk) 05:58, 26 March 2025 (UTC)
- @Omotecho, Er... You should put the translated text for Japanese language at: c:TimedText:Wikimania Nairobi - Eventyay Walkthrough.webm.ja.srt.
- With respect to bind a few segments together for other languages, feel free to do so in the ja.srt file instead.
- i.e. for English:
- 1
- 00:00:00,080 --> 00:00:01,520
- in this video I'm going to take you
- 2
- 00:00:01,520 --> 00:00:03,680
- through how to submit your programming
- 3
- 00:00:03,680 --> 00:00:07,000
- ideas for Wikimania Nairobi.
- For Japanese:
- 1
- 00:00:00,080 --> 00:00:07,000
- このビデオでは、Wikimania Nairobi に
- プログラミングのアイデアを提出する方法について説明します。
- Just ensure that there is no overlap of timings at the end of the current timed text and the start of the next timed text. Robertsky (talk) 06:09, 26 March 2025 (UTC)
