Laptop

I'm reading this phrase:

"If you use slides, please prepare these on your laptop and have them ready to go."

It seems I will be allowed to use my own laptop. It seems good to me. 👍 👍

Is it confirmed? Thank you so much.

P.S. In the case it's not confirmed, or in the case a shared laptop must be used (and I can understand why), maybe these FAQ can be useful: m:Wikimedians_for_software_freedom#Talks_and_Showcases_proprietary_environments

Hey @Valerio Bozzolan, I've edited that bit so as not to confuse. The production team will run your slides for you and you'll have a clicker. With such a fast-paced showcase, we don't have time for speakers to bring up laptops to plug in / run their own slides. Plus this is easier for speakers anyhow :)
No shared laptop - your slides will be opened by the production team at their desk using the document or link you provide in eventyay. Hope that helps clarify! ELappen (WMF) (talk) 21:30, 30 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
@ELappen (WMF): Thanks for the clarification. At this point I probably need your help to kindly ask the production team to do their very best, this year, to always show the slides in full-screen, or, to show a generic "Wikimania wallpaper" when slides are not available; but, possibly, never ever indirectly promoting any other unrelated proprietary software, including Google Docs, Google Drive, Microsoft Windows, macOS, not showing these parts, even for 1-2 seconds.
Note: I'm not asking to install GNU/Linux on the production computer :D I'm just asking to consider every company and every product shown as a big communication issue; including promotion of Google, and promotion of Google Drive. So let's only share full-screen slides (so nobody can see they come from Google Drive).
Thanks for what we can do for this 🙏 🙏
If the production team will succeed, we will use them as a good example for the following years. Valerio Bozzolan (talk) 08:24, 31 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Google Meet

I noticed there is a "Google Meet" link in this page - here maybe useful disclaimer:

Thanks again for the meeting (sorry if I have not participated), and thanks for what can be done to avoid proprietary software infrastructure in the future Valerio Bozzolan (talk) 18:19, 30 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

If you'd like to watch the session, I'd be glad to download and upload to Commons for you. This is of course general practice, but in this case the video doesn't need to live on in perpetuity (my plan is to take this down in just over a week as it won't be useful next year anyhow - things change a lot year over year). Again if you want to watch the session and don't want to watch it on Meet I am happy to do this. ELappen (WMF) (talk) 21:34, 30 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Hoping to say something nice, I am confident that your work deserves to be on Wikimedia Commons :)
In the meanwhile, apologies but I will never open a link to https://drive.google.com/ on my personal computer since this honestly scares me to hell (just as during the COVID pandemic I was doing my best to do not lick the pole on my bus - to easily avoid potential permanent damage ihih).
