Who takes part in Wikimedia projects?
Who are the contributors, and how are they organised?
Wikimedians are everywhere!
- either on their own or in groups,
- they can form informal local groups such as the NCO (Non-Cabale de l’Ouest – perhaps the oldest local group in the world?)
- or associations organised by region, also known as ‘chapters’ and often referred to by acronyms: WMFr = Wikimedia France, WMCH = Wikimedia Switzerland, WMBE = Wikimedia Belgium…
- or associations organised by theme: such as Les Sans PagEs (LSP), Le Deuxième Texte, Wikimedia LGBT, WikiFranca (Francophone community)
- the Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) manages hosting, legal matters, etc.; it is led by a board of trustees made up of volunteers.
Everyone adheres to the Universal Code of Conduct, both online and at in-person events. This will also apply during the Team Challenges.

Creating an account
This account is valid across all Wikimedia projects and will also allow you to log in to other tools.
The first step is to choose a username: you can find some advice on this in the video.
Don’t panic if you’re stuck for ideas – just choose an object or an animal and a colour, for example, to start with; you can always ask to change your username later if you come up with a better idea!
