Welcome to the Wikimania Day Zero Advocacy Workshop

The Global Advocacy team and Wikimedia Europe,are excited to announce a advocacy workshop the day before Wikimania - 21 July 2026, 14:30 to 16:30, in Paris.

This meeting is open to Wikimedians with or without prior experience in advocacy and public policy. It will consist of three main parts:

A session on relationships maintenance with institutions: during which Wikimedians will share their experiences with building partnerships with institutions at the the UN, EU and national levels.

A session on how to reverse-engineer a community campaign. will take participants on a journey through the Nigerian and Brazilian communities' copyright initiatives. We will deconstruct and understand the different elements of each.

An advocacy match-making clinic: Experienced free knowledge advocates are there to answer your questions help you design and plan your next steps!

Practical information

  • Date: Tuesday, 21 July, 2026
  • Time: 14:30h - 16:30h (local time)
  • Venue: Room 4, Wikimania Paris conference venue.
  • Refreshments: Basic Tea/Coffee will be available throughout, as well as some snacks.

As in any other Wikimedia event, the Universal Code of Conduct and Friendly Space Policy will be in effect throughout this workshop.
