English: The snowy owl (Bubo scandiacus), also known as the polar owl, the white owl and the Arctic owl, is a large, white owl of the true owl family.
Females tend to have more extensive flecks of darker grey, while males tend to be a purer white overall. Juvenile male snowy owls have dark-grey markings that may appear similar to females until maturity.
Français : Le harfang des neiges (Bubo scandiacus), également appelé hibou polaire, hibou blanc et hibou arctique, est un grand oiseau de la famille des hiboux. Les femelles ont tendance à avoir des taches plus étendues de gris plus foncé, tandis que les mâles ont tendance à être d'un blanc plus pur sur toute leur surface. Les jeunes harfangs des neiges mâles ont des marques gris foncé qui peuvent ressembler à celles des femelles jusqu'à leur maturité. |
