Is there a wikimania conference at Philippines?

So is there any wikimania event in Philippines? 143.44.164.223 00:34, 9 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello @143.44.164.223 currently no there is no wikimania related event in Philippines. However, if there will be one in Philippines it will be listed on the 2025:Related affiliate events page. Please keep an eye on that page.
Thank you.

Hello @143.44.164.223, please still keep an eye on 2025:Related affiliate events for 2025 maybe the PhilWiki Community might decide to host a Wikimania 2025 watch party/event.

Currently Wikimania is rotated regionally across the world. For 2026, unless there have been changes since the last round of Wikimania:Expressions of Interest, it will be in Paris. The dates are not decided yet as there are a lot of factors in play. As to if it will be in Philippines the next time, it can be considered if there is a proposal for it in the next EOI. However do note that Singapore hosted Wikimania in 2023, the first since COVID-19. If we are doing it in a rotational manner since then, it may take awhile for South-east Asia region to be considered again. Robertsky (talk) 15:47, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Venue

As booking early can really save money, I wanted to ask when a decision on the venue can be expected?

I understand that negotiating and renting a venue may take time, but perhaps the organisers could indicate an area of Nariobi? Thanks! --Dimi z (talk) 11:53, 25 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Dimi z, Please check the Travel page for more information regarding your request. Joris Darlington Quarshie (talk) 14:56, 20 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Proposals for talks/workshops etc

Where is the page where one puts forward proposals tor presentations/ workshops etc? I cannot come, but am hoping to give an online presentation. MargaretRDonald (talk) 18:55, 2 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello @MargaretRDonald,
The call for proposals has not yet been launched. Once the call for proposals is launched we will definitely be having a page for the call. Joris Darlington Quarshie (talk) 11:33, 5 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Speaking from the perspective of an academic researcher, it is already quite late to start planning funding for participation. It would really make my life easier if I could submit a proposal and get a possible approval early, so that I could seek funding. Pundit (talk) 12:52, 4 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Pundit and @MargaretRDonald, The call for proposals will be opening soon. Please keep an eye on Wikimania wiki, the page will be created soon in other to provide guidance for the call for proposals. Joris Darlington Quarshie (talk) 17:47, 19 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

Translation?

Could someone with admin user rights add the translation markup and mark the page for translation? Thanks, Ankermast (talk) 19:22, 3 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Ankermast Which page are you referring to? -- Exec8 (talk) 23:10, 5 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
The main page, of course. Ankermast (talk) 10:38, 12 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

If I can ask, why 2025:Wikimania and 2025:Organisers pages haven't translation tool so anyone can help translate it to their respective languages too?. Thank you. Zahirulnukman (talk) 05:22, 9 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Zahirulnukman, 2025:Wikimania is currently under construction and it is not advisable to mark that page at the moment for translation. Once its good for translation, the main page will definitely be marked for translation. For 2025:Organisers will definitely marked for translation soon. Joris Darlington Quarshie (talk) 17:23, 13 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Joris Darlington Quarshie Then would you please do so? And why can’t the Main Page receive the markup when it’s possible to update the old translations when changes have been made? Ankermast (talk) 18:02, 13 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Joris Darlington Quarshie Or please grant someone else admin rights to add the markup, e. g. @MrBenjo who had already requested them several weeks ago. Ankermast (talk) 20:02, 21 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Announcing the winners

I would like to ask a question: when will the winners of the international competition in archaeological photography in Egypt in 2024 be announced? I took first place in Egypt and I waited a long time to know when the international competition would be announced, but the answer is always that it is in one month and that it is normal for it to be delayed. But when will it appear in the month of 1 2026? Abdelrahmannr (talk) 15:21, 18 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hello @Abdelrahmannr:, I believe you need to reach out directly with the user group in Egypt about this concern as the competition you refer to is not part of Wikimania's programme. Kindly go to their talk page. -- Exec8 (talk)

Include "and" in the projects list for translation

In the main page, the word "and" when listing the Wikimedia projects is not included for translation.

Additionally, but not crucially, the "Interested to host Wikimania?" string only includes the opening ''' tag without the closing. It doesn't affect anything but it opens to possible mistakes when translating. EmpAhmadK (talk) 09:41, 25 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

I saw that too + the page links have to be internationalized, for example, the Wikivoyage links all lead to enwikivoyage. Regards, Ankermast (talk) 21:26, 25 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thanks to @Minorax for fixing the markup. Ankermast (talk) 07:55, 26 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Please keep codes out of the translation

The recent addition of the programme proposal button puts the whole button (code and all) into the translation tag. This can cause confusion among translators who might accidentally translate the code which renders the page broken. Please keep the text only and put the code outside the translation tag. Thanks. EmpAhmadK (talk) 06:34, 9 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Could somebody add more _transalate_ tags to the mainpage, I am dreaming so that the Team will intrigue more session proposals (; Ten more days to go, and good luck to you all, -- Omotecho (talk) 18:04, 19 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Is there a Hackathon?

In previous Wikimanias, there was a hackathon starting the day before the conference proper. Last year this was changed so that the hackathon ran concurrently with the main Wikimania program. What is the plan for Wikimania 2025? Will there be a hackathon? Will there be a process for proposing projects or tutorials for the hackathon? Will it precede the main program or run concurrently as it did last year?

Thanks! Cscott (talk) 14:01, 13 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Cscott, There will be a wikimania hackathon for 2025 which will be happening from the pre-conference day August 5th through out the main conference days August 6th to August 9th, 2025.
Currently the call for programming proposals are open and if you want to submit a program session for the hackathon you can feel free and submit it under the technology track.

Please feel free to refer to the Program.

If you have any more questions or need any clarifications please feel to ask them here or via email. Joris Darlington Quarshie (talk) 19:36, 14 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
