Eddy Verloes (Aalst, 1959) is a Belgian photographer.
Biography
Verloes studied at the University Faculties of Sint-Aloysius in Brussels, the University of Leuven and the University of Freiburg and obtained a master's degree in Literature and Philosophy. He was a teacher at the Preparatory Division of the Royal Military School in Belgium and manager of Verloes Languages & Training. Around 2010 he became particularly interested in photography and in 2013-2014 he took a photography course at the Centre for Adult Education in Leuven. In 2015 he held his first solo exhibition at Galerie Expotempo in Knokke-Heist (Belgium) and self-published his first photo album: No time to Verloes.
With the photo series Losing Our Minds about Hasidic Jews on the Belgian coast, Verloes gained international fame in 2020 and won several prizes. Afterwards, Dutch poet Benno Barnard wrote poems to accompany the photos and Bart Bekker and Jan Vanwinckel of The River Curls around the Town created music for them, which led to the publication of the book and CD Buiten zinnen/Losing Our Minds in 2021. In 2022-2023, Buiten zinnen/Losing Our Minds as a performance visited various Belgian cultural centres with Belgian journalist and writer Geert van Istendael as host.
On December 21, 2023, the Boutersem Municipal Council awarded Verloes honorary citizenship in recognition of his artistic merits and fame as a photographer.
On the American website All About Photo, Verloes describes his work as poetic-philosophical.

Awards
With Losing Our Minds, Verloes won several international awards, including the Travel Photographer of the Year Award 2020, the Pangea Prize Siena Creative Photo Award 2021 Italy, the reFocus One Shot Contest Award 2022 in the United States, the Great Photo Award 2023/Black & White World Photo Competition in Greece, the 17th Pollux Award 2021 in Barcelona, the Malta International Photo Travel Award 2020/2021 and the London Photography Award 2020.
Verloes was also Photographer of the Year Winner at the 17th Black & White Spider Awards 2022 in Beverly Hills and Silver Winner PX3 Prix de la Photographie Paris 2023.
Expositions
Together with Lieve Blancquaert and Michiel Hendryckx, Verloes exhibited in 2018 in the St. Ursula Chapel in Tongeren and in 2019 he exhibited with Luc-Peter Crombé, painter of the fourth generation of the Latem School, in the Meeting and Event Centre Staf Versluys in Bredene. Verloes was selected several times for national and international photo festivals, including in Belgium, Crete, Greece, the Netherlands and the United Arab Emirates.
He also had solo exhibitions and toured with his project Buiten Zinnen/Losing Our Minds at the Maagdenhuis Museum Antwerp in 2021 and in various Belgian cultural centres in 2022-2023, including Ostend, Arenberg Antwerp, Herentals, Tienen, Puurs- Sint-Amands, Torhout, Diest, Waremme and Hasselt, as well as in libraries, including in Leuven.
His works have also been shown in various galleries at home and abroad: including The Glasgow Gallery of Photography, Decode Gallery Tuscon, ASmith Gallery Texas, Photo Place Gallery Vermont, Agora Gallery New York, International Fine Art Amsterdam Whitney Gallery New York, New York Center for Photographic Art, Dallas Center for Photography Texas, Duncan Millar Gallery California, Space Place Gallery of Contemporary Art, Ural (Russia), Art Room Gallery Berlin, the Handelsbeurs in Antwerp, ArtMut Gallery Mechelen (Belgium) and Galerie Expotempo Knokke (Belgium). In addition to Jef Neve, the Belgian musical artists Koen Wilmaers, Carlo Willems and Bart Watté also made a composition for Verloes' photos.
