Hi! I'm Kat Townsend, an experienced advocate for using technology and data in service of increase access and equity, particularly with those who have been intentionally marginalized. I've worked for the U.S. government on President Obama's innovation and transparency directive and for the governments of U.S., Ghana, UAE, and U.K. on data and civic engagement policies and projects. As part of the 2017 Africa Open Data Conference which I helped host as a project of my organization, Open Data Collaboratives, I worked with the fantastic volunteers of Ghana Wikimedia to host an edit-a-thon for more entries by and for Ghanaians, and in 2021 hosted trainings and edits for a women edit-a-thon for more entries by and about women. My first Wikimania was in 2012 in Washington D.C. and though I will miss seeing you all in person I'm looking forward to a virtual Wikimania!
