From Wikimania

Hi! I’m Nivopol, a local parisian who hope to live the dream of Wikimania 2026 and help you to live it too!

Introduction

I’m contributing mostly to Wikisource in French, and occasionally on other projects. I’m interested in ergonomics, written media and writing techs, physics, library and information science, linguistics, programming language design… I work or I have worked in some of these domains.

I live in the south of Paris, close to Montsouris park and the 13th district.

I’ll be on site up to July 31st. Feel free to reach out !

Notes from the volunteer meeting July 15th (in English)

Volunteer plannings we received are temporary. We will have more detailed ones on Sunday.

The "lunch cleaning" mission is very short. It’s only to get people using trash bins and cleaning the tables after themselves.

The cross, X, in the planning, are timeslot when you’re available, but no relevant mission was found. We have to tell them if we are unavailable.

They matched exactly what you checked in the form, so if you want/can do something else, reach the organizing team by email.

If there’s something you really do not want to do say it also.

In welcoming and language support missions, we need more people.

For the crowd flow management, volunteers will have this as a main mission on Tuesday and Wednesday evening. Particularly, there is the printing of access cards at the welcoming desk.

Then, we received all of us a generic flow management briefing, because we ask to every volunteer to be careful for the whole conference about it.

We should wear our t-shirt every day. Hopefully there are enough to change regularly, otherwise nothing is planned to wash them (but on telegram we could organise this between us), so people will identify us quicker by smell (*just joking*). We can wear them creatively.

For language support, obviously we don’t diagnose or anything. We help people to go to the hospital.

Or to the pharmacy, or buy survival gear like phone cable…

They open language support to external people, in order to have parisian volunteer in the neighbourhood. Because otherwise it’s boring for someone who can’t attend the conference, but have to wait that someone need them.

It could also be a translation need for several days for serious situations.

No need of first aid training. The venue has a local firefighter & field medic team.

We’ll have bottle as goodies.

They have some Wikimania tickets for local volunteers, if you do not have one already. Reach the team if you need it.

For the tour guide mission, we’ll have a specific email with more details.
