impact in the Wikimedia movement
- If someone came to you and asked, "What is Wikimedia?", what would you say?
To me, Wikimedia is a global family of volunteers those who believe knowledge should be free for everyone. It’s not just Wikipedia, it includes projects like Wikimedia Commons, Wikidata, Wikisource, and many others, all created and maintained by people like us from every corner of the world. I see Wikimedia as a place where we write our own history, share our culture, and make information accessible for all. No matter who you are or where you live, you can take part and contribute. That’s the real beauty of this movement and it belongs to everyone.
- If someone came to you and asked you, "What impact have you had on the Wikimedia movement?", what would you answer?
Since I joined Wikimedia in March 2017, Wikimedia has been my home! I sleep there at night and wake up in the morning. a location where I can contribute for human knowledge, something I really like. After making my first edit at enwiki, I have made 302,500+ edits total, adding numerous new articles, improving the infrastructure of the wiki, and adding over 1500 media files. In addition, daily average of over 11,300 page views (https://pageviews.wmcloud.org/userviews/?project=en.wikipedia.org&platform=all-access&agent=user&namespace=0&redirects=2&range=all-time&sort=views&direction=1&view=list&user=ZI%20Jony) in articles that I created!
As a Wikimedia volunteer, I take pride in contributing to the global mission of freely sharing knowledge. I have worked collectively to make a meaningful impact on the Wikimedia movement. Through various initiatives, we have aimed to enrich content, improve accessibility, and foster inclusivity in the projects.
One of my key contributions has been enhancing the representation of underrepresented topics, cultures, and languages. For example, I have created and expanded articles on local history, traditions, and notable personalities, ensuring they are documented and accessible to a global audience. This has allowed diverse voices and knowledge systems to find their rightful place within Wikimedia platforms.
Additionally, our community has actively engaged in capacity-building efforts. We organize workshops, training sessions, and edit-a-thons to empower new contributors, helping them learn how to edit and contribute effectively. This not only strengthens the movement but also creates a supportive environment for volunteers (https://w.wiki/FV95, https://w.wiki/FV97, and https://w.wiki/FV96).
Collaboration has been another cornerstone of my work. We have partnered with educational institutions, libraries, and other organizations to raise awareness of Wikimedia’s mission and integrate its use in education and research. These collaborations have further expanded the reach and impact of Wikimedia projects. In Addition, I started Wiki Loves Ramadan to organize globally. (https://w.wiki/BSNv, https://w.wiki/FV99 and https://w.wiki/FV9C). Recently, started Culture Exchange (https://w.wiki/FqXw), the first version of it is October 2025, running on Bangla (https://w.wiki/FUmp) and Ukrainian (https://w.wiki/Fmvh) Wikipedia. I am a Founder of Wiki Knowledge Park (https://w.wiki/CcJ8), which is not recognised by AffCom yet. In my pipeline, I have Wikifunctions in GLAM and Wikifunctions for Education for coming days.
In addition, I am a member of Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year Committee, and organized POTY 2023 & POTY 2024. Also a member of Steering Committee for Wikipedia Asian Month User Group (https://w.wiki/BuUG) and GLAM User Group (https://w.wiki/FqZ2).
In summary, my contributions may seem small individually, but collectively they have helped improve the quality, diversity, and reach of knowledge available on Wikimedia platforms. This aligns with the movement’s vision of a world where every single human can freely share in the sum of all knowledge.
Involvement in home wiki or the broader Wikimedia movement
- If you are new to the Wikimedia movement, what inspired you to join our community?
I joined Wikimedia out of curiosity back in 2017, and one edit turned into a lifelong commitment. I realized it’s not just about editing pages; it’s about empowering others to share their knowledge. The sense of community, openness, and shared purpose is what keeps me inspired after all these years.
- Tell us about your involvement in the last 18 months, your main wiki or the wider Wikimedia movement. What have you created or contributed to improve your wiki or community? (Have you led or organized any of the activities mentioned? What activity was the most important to you personally and why? Which of these activities took place in the past 18 months? Add links to activities, dashboards and reports or Diff publications.)
As an active community member, I have been extensively involved in both my home wiki and the broader Wikimedia movement. My contributions include writing and editing numerous articles, along with creating and maintaining thousands of infrastructure Wiki-Pages. I serve as a dedicated participant and leading volunteer for projects such as Wiki Loves Ramadan, WAM, FnF, WLM, Culture Exchange, etc.
One of my notable involvements was organizing Wiki Loves Ramadan, a global campaign aimed at enriching Wikimedia projects with high-quality content about Ramadan. This required extensive coordination with international volunteers, recruiting and mentoring team members for roles such as Infrastructure & Engagement Manager, Digital Engagement & Community Support Manager, Technical & Operations Coordinator, Regional Coordinator and Ambassador. The campaign helped bridge knowledge gaps while strengthening the collaboration between diverse linguistic and cultural communities.
Although each project has been impactful, the organization of Wiki Loves Ramadan stands out to me. It required strategic planning, teamwork, and a shared vision to achieve a meaningful outcome. The experience of bringing together a diverse group of volunteers and witnessing the positive impact of their contributions was deeply rewarding.
Recently, started Culture Exchange (https://w.wiki/FqXw) with Bangla (https://w.wiki/FUmp) and Ukrainian (https://w.wiki/Fmvh) Wikipedia. Also, founded Wiki Knowledge Park (https://w.wiki/CcJ8), which is not recognised by AffCom yet at the moment, but has pipeline project Wikifunctions in GLAM and Wikifunctions for Education with Wiki Loves Ramadan and Culture Exchange.
Additionally, my roles encompass:
- Project lead for Wiki Loves Ramadan (https://w.wiki/BSZE)
- Local organizer and jury member for Wiki Loves Ramadan 2025 (https://w.wiki/CqeJ)
- Local organizer and jury member for Wikipedia Asian Month 2025 (https://w.wiki/FqDS)

Liberty, Equity, Reliability
- The theme of Wikimania 2026 is LIBERTY, EQUITY, RELIABILITY (What does this mean for you (and for the work you do as a volunteer within the Wikimedia movement)? Provide examples and/or links.)
To me, the theme of Wikimania@21 "Liberty, Equity, Reliability" symbolizes a celebration of Wikimedia's two-decade-long journey while laying the foundation for its future. Each element of this theme carries profound meaning.
LIBERTY means the freedom to contribute and access information without barriers. It’s about ensuring people can document their own culture, history, and traditions, something I’ve been doing through projects like Wiki Loves Ramadan (https://w.wiki/BSZE), which empowers communities from different countries to share knowledge about Ramadan in their own voice.
EQUITY means fair representation. Most of my work has focused on bringing underrepresented topics and regions into Wikimedia, from writing about local history and personalities to supporting edit-a-thons that empower new contributors (https://w.wiki/FV95, https://w.wiki/FV96).
RELIABILITY is about trust, which ensures that the knowledge we build is accurate, well sourced, and verifiable. Whether I’m writing articles, mentoring editors, and/or reviewing edits, reliability is at the heart of it all. It’s what keeps Wikimedia credible and respected worldwide.
Share your experiences
- How do you usually share your experiences (or what you have learned) with your community? (How will you share what you learn at Wikimania 2026? Examples of wiki summaries, reports, blog posts, meetup discussions, etc., are welcome here. Please include links to examples.)
As a dedicated Wikimedia volunteer, I consistently strive to share my experiences and learnings with my community in ways that are impactful and accessible. Over the years, I have utilized various methods to ensure the knowledge I acquire benefits the wider Wikimedia ecosystem.
I share my experiences through Wikimedia Diff blog posts, Meta reports, and community discussions. For example, I’ve written about organizing international campaigns and contributed to movement strategy reports (https://w.wiki/4Qqx, https://w.wiki/8QCQ, https://w.wiki/FV99, https://w.wiki/CH8d, https://w.wiki/FV9C, https://w.wiki/FV97).
I also use social media and mailing lists to communicate updates and learning outcomes from events and projects. After Wikimania 2026, I plan to create a Meta-wiki summary and share key takeaways with the global Wiki Loves Ramadan community and other project teams I lead.
I actively participated in the Small Wiki Toolkits Workshops conducted by WMF's Developer Advocacy team from February to October 2022. Throughout the workshops, I gained valuable insights into Pywikibot, Toolforge, bot and tool maintenance, as well as writing queries using WDQS (https://w.wiki/4nUk).
In addition, I have organized numerous article and photo contests, including but not limited to Wikipedia Asian Month, Wiki Loves Women, Feminism and Folklore, Wiki Loves Earth, Wiki Loves Monuments (specifically for Bangladesh and UAE), and Wiki Loves Folklore. In 2020, I served as an international team member for Wiki Loves Folklore (https://w.wiki/8QC8). I am a member of Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year Committee, and organized POTY 2023 & POTY 2024.
I played a pivotal role as a member and one of the leaders in the Movement Strategy Recommendations for the Bangla Wikipedia Community (https://w.wiki/8QCK), and I contributed to the corresponding report (https://w.wiki/4Qqx).
