Odd reversions
Hi Sky Bot, did you mean to stop people from [editing submissions? WereSpielChequers (talk) 18:29, 13 March 2023 (UTC)
- @WereSpielChequers Should have pointed editors to my talk page. But hey, caught it in time. The bot does a one-way push from the platform. The script currently does not check for changes on here on the assumption that the changes on Pretalx are more pertinent than here. Proposers can edit their submission on Pretalx, and evaluation will be done there by the reviewers. There's no edit APIs on Pretalx yet to push changes from here to Pretalx. I will manually update the submission in Pretalx being that it is typographical errors before the next run. Cheers Robertsky (talk) 04:47, 14 March 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply, that does not strike me as a very wiki way of organising things. I hope Pretalx is not used in future Wikiimanias. I read through all the submissions and edited several. They weren't even protected or given an edit notice to say that this was not editable, just a mirror of something that only the submitter or the team could edit. - Thanks for the feedback. There are certainly gaps in which the platform that can be bridged either by better bot/script implementations or development within the platform for future use. Pretalx is an open source platform. If I am not mistaken, Pretalx was used in 2019, and there wasn't an easy way extract the information from the platform by 2019 COT then. It was only in the last couple of years when the volunteers developing Pretalx opened up REST API endpoints to allow a more automated data extraction. Who knows? We may be able to see additional features that close the gaps in the near future. For now, I will add an notice in the template that these, on wiki here, are mirror of the submissions done on Pretalx and that if there's any (useful) changes on wiki, the submitter or the team will update accordingly in Pretalx. Pretalx markup conversion
Pretalx understands Markdown, but apparently the bot doesn't. I assume I can't fix that manually because the bot will just overwrite local changes. Would be nice to fix, although I understand that would make the bot's job significantly more complex. Tgr (talk) 14:53, 29 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Tgr Go ahead and fix the wiki version. I will mark your submission to detach from the pretalx version for the moment in my script. when i am more free, i will spend some time working out on how to convert from the markdown syntax to wiki syntax. Robertsky (talk) 18:51, 29 March 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks @Robertsky! I fixed that page and the speaker profile. I think some people had success with markdown -> wikitext conversion using pandoc. Tgr (talk) 08:59, 9 April 2023 (UTC)
Which is the version reviewed ?
Hello Robertsky,
I corrected an important typo on my application (Sing language → Sign language) here on wikimania wiki, but this fix did not propagated to pretalx 9L7PVR. Which of those 2 pages is reviewed by humans from the program committee ? Yug (talk) 05:07, 4 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Yug, the review was already at its tail-end when you made the change on wiki. I am checking with the working group which reviewed the equity track, but it is likely that this typo does not affect the evaluation given that the details in abstract indicate that it is about sign languages.
