Adding an autopatrol user group

This wiki has recent changes patrolling configured for new pages. Can I suggest we add an autopatrol user group for users that frequently create new pages and don't need to be patrolled? Thinking specifically about some very active translators.

Upcoming changes for Bureaucrats: Two-factor authentication

If you are not aware, there is an upcoming change which will affect Bureaucrats across all wikis.

Relevant Tech news update:

  • For security reasons, members of certain user groups are required to have two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled. Members of these groups will be unable to disable the last 2FA method on their account, and it will be impossible to add users without 2FA to these groups. Users will still be able to add new authentication methods or remove them, as long as at least one method is continuously enabled. In the next few weeks, users without 2FA will be removed from these groups. Notably, this applies to bureaucrats. See the linked tasks for deployment schedules.

From phab:T423120:

For simplicity, assume we're talking about a bureaucrat who don't have 2FA (for other groups in question it works the same). The way we are deploying the config:

  • For initial 2 weeks the account will be able to do all actions as if they weren't bureaucrat (but had other groups they have). For instance, they are perfectly able to edit pages, block users (if they are admin). Their membership in bureaucrat group is disabled – until they enable 2FA. Once they enable 2FA, their 'crat membership is automatically enabled. From that point on, they won't be able to completely disable 2FA on their account (as long as they are member of a 2FA-requiring group).
  • After the initial 2 weeks, we enable automatic demotion. All bureaucrats, who haven't enabled 2FA yet, will actually lose membership in that group. From that point on, if they enable 2FA, they won't get 'crat permissions back automatically. Instead, they have to be manually added to the group.

The patch for the initial 2 weeks of restricted crat access was deployed yesterday, 26 May 2026. Please ensure that you have enabled two-factor authentication on your account within the next 2 weeks, otherwise your bureaucrat rights on wikimaniawiki will be revoked automatically.

Pinging current Bureaucrats of this wiki (who are not interface administrators) for visibility: @Billinghurst, @Fuzheado, @Jdforrester, @Nadzik.

Note: intadmins who did not have 2FA enabled had their intadmins rights revoked back in March 2026. Robertsky (talk) 14:17, 27 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
