Are you interested in learning more about the Wikimedia projects and how to contribute to them? Do you want to join a global community of volunteers who share free knowledge with the world? If yes, then you should attend the Wikimedia Basic workshops at Wikimania 2023!
Wikimania is the annual event celebrating all the free knowledge projects hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation, such as Wikipedia, Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons, Wikisource, Wiktionary, and more. It is a great opportunity to meet other Wikimedians, exchange ideas, and learn new skills.
The Wikimedia Basic workshops are designed for beginners who want to get started with editing and uploading content on the Wikimedia platforms. They will cover the basics of:
Wikipedia: the free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit. Learn how to create and improve articles, add references and images, and avoid common mistakes.
Wikimedia Commons: the free media repository that anyone can contribute to. Learn how to upload and categorize files, add descriptions and licenses, and use media on other projects.
Wikidata: the free and open knowledge base that anyone can edit. Learn how to create and edit items, add statements and sources, and use tools and queries.
Wikisource: the free library of source texts that anyone can improve. Learn how to transcribe and proofread texts, add metadata and annotations, and use tools and templates.
Wiktionary: the free dictionary that anyone can edit. Learn how to create and edit entries, add definitions and translations, and use tools and formats.
The workshops will be held on Tuesday, August 15 until Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at the Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre, as part of the pre-conference activities of Wikimania 2023. They will be led by experienced Wikimedians who will guide you through the basics and answer your questions.
To register for the workshops, you just need to be registered to register for Wikimania 2023 first. Then, you can select the workshops you want to attend on the program page. The workshops are free of charge, but seats are limited.
