2019:Health/Health Education Initiative:Experiment, Experience and Engagement

One of the major concerns related to health in India is lack of awareness and ignorance. It has been observed that the ignorant approach and limited information about various health concerns makes people believe the rumors leading to reduction in number of people visiting the doctors for treatment post diagnosis. Women Wikimedians from 10 different language groups in India came together in 2018 and started an initiative Wiki Women for Women Wellbeing where they wrote about women health concerns, created awareness videos and also organized awareness sessions by doctors. In order to engage students with the cause and to give them reasons to continue working on wiki, along with the edit-a-thon, we worked with PGIMER to provide them practical exposure to understanding human body and ill effects of certain practices on the internal organs.

At the end of the session, the following will have been achieved:
The participants will get to know about the new approach we have adopted to work on the area of prime concern i.e. Health. They will get to know how and why the whole program was designed. The speaker believes feedback and suggestion from the fellow wikimedians will help us run a more effective program for health awareness.
