I'v written a tool, find link, for adding links between articles in Wikipedia. Given an article title it will find other articles that could link to it. It works by using the Wikipedia search engine, then filtering out results that already include a link.
I plan to talk about why I created the tool, how it works and things I've learned while working on it.
This session will address the conference theme — Wikimedia, Free Knowledge and the Sustainable Development Goals — in the following manner:
More links in articles help readers to discover other relevant articles. This will assist in education and lifelong learning which is SDG goal 4 (ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all).
At the end of the session, the following will have been achieved:
More people will know how to use the tool and see how tools can be used to increase the quality of Wikipedia.
Each Space at Wikimania 2019 will have specific format requests. The program design prioritises submissions which are future-oriented and directly engage the audience. The format of this submission is a:
- Lightning talk
- Tool or project demonstration: short talks focused on tools
The session will work best with these conditions:
- Room: classroom or a lecture hall with a projector and screen
- Audience: any number of people, familiarity with editing Wikipedia would be useful
- Recording: content and format is appropriate for recording and sharing
