Abstract[edit | edit source]
Wikimedians of UAE user group is a new addition to the world of Wikimedia affiliations, which started at Wiki Arabia conference in Morocco in 2019. Initially we started with focus on Arabic literature as most of our members are part of Emirates Literature Foundation, a non-for-profit that promotes the culture of reading in UAE and the wider Arab World through its flagship, The annual Literature Festival. We realized early on that it is hard to find Arab authors info and bios online and there is a huge gap on Wikipedia related to Arab authors. Join us to learn about our journey in establishing an initiative called Kateb Maktub where we successfully trained students and interns on creating biographies on Wikipedia in Arabic and we just finished our first round of competitions on Wikipedia in Arabic.
