Abstract

[edit | edit source]

cOSMopolIT is a newborn volunteers' group based in Italy born to address inclusion, representation and diversity within the OpenStreetMap community. The group aims to organize virtual meetings and collaborations with other Diversity and Inclusion groups active in the Free/Libre Open Source Software (FLOSS) world with the idea of creating a safe network to share knowledge and experiences. The objective is to understand and highlight what can be done to have more inclusive communities and how these groups could work together to ensure safer and more welcoming spaces where everyone's voice could count and be heard.

Session Outcomes

[edit | edit source]

Attendees will have a clearer overview of the OpenStreetMap project and learn more about the wide community that stands behind the project. We are going to present cOSMopolIT, an enthusiastic newborn group aiming to have a more inclusive and well represented Italian OpenStreetMap community and empower people from underrepresented groups. We are going to explain how we started this initiative, what motivated us and what we have learnt so far.

I'm planning to attend this session live!
