What is the Capacity Exchange?

[edit | edit source]

We are a small group of Wikimedians interested in connecting peers around the Movement with each other, so they can exchange knowledge, services and resources. This is in the context of 2030 movement strategy - the vision is to decentralize capacity building, based upon the wisdom of all our peers in the movement willing to share. Help and mentorship with things like setting up a community event, planning for a Wikimedian in Residence, starting a user group, diversifying content on the projects, fundraising, governance, you name it - could be a few clicks away.

We want to establish a searchable, editable open source platform such as OER World Map as an online space for people to search for and offer mutual aid. Searchable categories would include people, organizations, skills, resources and services.

We are happy to report on the work done so far. We would like to launch a pilot/MVP before the end of the year. We are curious about your input - What types of services and knowledge would you look for? How can this be connected with the hopefully soon-to-be knowledge platform (also a prioritized initiative coming out of movement strategy recommendations)? What are your thoughts on curation and navigation of content? How do we get lots of people to participate? We have more questions than answers.
