Abstract[edit source]

Do you want to upload many files to Wikimedia Commons? There is now a tool that can do that in a very powerful way: OpenRefine. In this session you will learn the basics of batch uploading files to Commons with OpenRefine.
OpenRefine is a powerful data cleaning tool that is already quite popular for batch editing Wikidata. With a Wikimedia grant, it has now also been extended to allow batch editing and uploading files on Wikimedia Commons, with a focus on structured data.

Learning Outcomes[edit source]

After this tutorial,

  • participants will have a basic understanding of how OpenRefine works,
  • participants can do batch uploads to Wikimedia Commons with OpenRefine themselves,
  • participants will know where to find more documentation about using OpenRefine on Wikimedia Commons.
