Abstract[edit source]

Pages for Deletion is a common and one of the most known (and dreaded) procedures among all the Wikipedia projects. Yet they were renamed and retooled in 2022 on the Wikipedia in French as Débats d'admissibilité ("Admissibility Debates"). The process had been criticized for years as being problematic regarding the various situations encountered by the community, and a source of conflicts for newcomers as well as experiences users.
What lead to such drastic change? Was it so big and impactful? How was it done? Did it really improve community health, or was it just a fancy rebranding keeping all the previous issues?
This session will be followed by a Q&A time if enough time remains.

Learning Outcomes[edit source]

  • Identify correctly the admissibility processes on your project(s)
  • Learn from what good and bad things happened during this transition process
  • Ponder whether or not Page for Deletions should be reformed on other Wikimedia projects.

Biography[edit source]

I've joined the movement on the Wikipedia in French back in 2009 and am specialized into translating articles between English/French in various topics. I helped in 2016-2017 for its new Main Page reform and the Page for Deletions reform in 2021-2022. I also contribute on Wikidata and Commons.
