Wikipedia is a free, collaborative, multilingual, online encyclopedia that anyone can edit. Wikipedia contains millions of articles on various topics, concepts, and objects, which can be accessed and improved by anyone in the world. In this workshop, you will learn the basics of Wikipedia editing and how to contribute to it. You will also learn how to use Wikipedia as a resource for learning and teaching.

The workshop will cover the following topics:

Introduction to Wikipedia editing: What is Wikipedia editing and why is it important? You will learn about the goals, basic principles and format of Wikipedia editing, and how it differs from other types of collaborative websites.

Editing with the Source Editor: How to edit with the Source Editor using wikitext (wiki markup). You will learn how to use the Edit source tab, the Source Editor toolbar, and the wikitext syntax to create and modify articles on Wikipedia. You will also learn how to use headings, lists, links, images, tables, references, and other elements in wikitext.

Editing with the VisualEditor: How to edit with the VisualEditor using a user-friendly interface. You will learn how to use the Edit tab, the VisualEditor toolbar, and the visual features to create and modify articles on Wikipedia. You will also learn how to use the same elements as in wikitext, but without writing any code.

Working with Wikipedia: How to join a WikiProject, use tools and participate in the community. You will learn how to collaborate with other Wikipedia editors on specific topics or tasks. You will also learn how to use various tools and bots to enhance your editing experience and productivity. You will also learn how to communicate with other editors and get help or feedback on your work.

The workshop is designed for newcomers who have little or no prior experience with Wikipedia editing. It is suitable for anyone who is interested in learning more about Wikipedia and editing. The workshop will be interactive and hands-on, with exercises and examples to help you practice your skills.
