Abstract & description[edit source]

Abstract[edit source]

Wiki Loves Campaigns have been instrumental in bringing diverse content, readership and new editor demographics through various media campaigns that run from the local level to the international level occurring annually. We will be utilising the case study of Wiki Loves Folklore to demonstrate how to start an idea for your new unique campaign or initiate an already existing international campaign in your own community.

Description[edit source]

With the rapid growth seen in the affiliates and unorganised groups around the international communities, Wiki Loves Campaigns have played one of the most crucial parts in the growth of underrepresented communities in terms of leadership, organised programs, editor demographics and ultimately readership. In this session, we will discuss how to plan, initiate and successfully execute the Campaign with community involvement.

The session would be a combination of a workshop around Wiki Loves campaigns, their learnings and the impact of different campaigns in the projects, followed by a group activity, where the participants will brainstorm on new ideas which they later want to follow up with their affiliates and community. In the post-presentation activity, we will engage the participants to share the ideas they are interested in developing into wiki loves campaigns (for first-time initiatives), and how to coordinate the existing international campaign in their local community (language-based, Commons-based, region based).

What are the lessons learnt from some of the old and new projects? What kind of support is needed to execute a new project? What are the current gaps in Wikimedia that need more work?

  • Case Studies - Reflection of international campaigns
  • How to manage and start media partnerships
  • Tools used for setting up campaigns in different Wikimedia projects, statistical tools such as dashboard, fountain tool, montage, etc.
  • Collaborating with Wikimedia affiliates
  • Increasing engagement with social media and networking engagement

Further details[edit source]

Qn. How does your session relate to the event themes: Diversity, Collaboration Future?

Wiki Loves Campaigns are created by people for the people. This session will ensure that the knowledge and skill gaps for people coming from different communities and regions can be bridged with the learnings and skills taught in this workshop. The interactive nature of this program would allow people not just to be observers but to work together in groups to plan their future campaigns right in the workshop.
